Groceries: There is a Safeway at MLK and Ainsworth. At 15th and Fremont is Wild Oats, and Big City Produce is an easy walk a few blocks south on Albina. And New Seasons is at Interstate and Portland Blvd on the Max line. Farmers Markets: Alberta Farmers' Market is Saturdays, 10:00 - 2:00 May - November at NE 15th/Alberta. And the Interstate Farmers Market is each Wednesday, 3:00 - 7:00 May 18 - September 28 at Overlook Park, N Fremont/Interstate. Parks: Unthank Park is 3 blocks northeast. Dawson Park is 1/2 mi southeast. Overlook Park has an off-leash area and amazing views of the City. It's 1/2 mi west Restaurants: On Killingsworth: Jamal's Cafe has sandwiches and dinner (and does take out). Chapel Pub is a McMenamin's in the old Chapel of the Chimes building. Across the street is the Florida Room (Church of the Bloody Mary). There's Harold's Barbecue, Golden Chopsticks, Pshaw! (live music). Roux and Bon Temps are both great, and Di Prima Dolci Bakery (awesome baked goods both sweet and savory). Eddie's Flat Iron Pizza also has ovenbaked sandwiches, salads and homemade cobbler. Paragon has cocktails. And a patio. And karaoke. For pho, you've got Pho Jasmine and Pho Thanh Tao. Closer to Interstate, SohBet is open for coffees, sandwiches, soups, and sweets. There's Mio Sushi, and Sal's Famous Italian is open for lunch and dinner (with cocktails). Sagittarius is cozy and serves comfort food (with a creative twist). At Skidmore and Williams is Vendetta (it has no sign) (look for the neon R in the window). They have a full bar, late kitchen (sloppy joes!) and a patio for the summer. Then there's 5th Quandrant (Old Lompoq) with burgers, salads, sandwiches and beer. It shares a corner with Pix Patisserie, which is open late with Amazing Desserts and a bar. A little to the south there is all that Mississippi has: Gravy (breakfast), Equinox (lovely patio and food), Lovely Hula Hands cocktails and dinner), Mississippi Pizza (by the slice, with live music), Pasta Bangs, and Amnesia Brewing (festive patio). Other notable things nearby: the Library has a branch on Killingsworth, and the Interstate Firehouse Cultural Center on Interstate has great exhibits and events. Bikes: Cascade Cycling is right on Killingsworth, and there's North Portland Bike Works on Mississippi. |
