Groceries: There is a Safeway at MLK and Ainsworth. At 15th and Fremont is Wild Oats, and Big City Produce is just a little north on Albina. Farmers Markets: Alberta Farmers' Market is Saturdays, 10:00 - 2:00 from May - November at NE 15th/Alberta. And the Interstate Farmers Market is each Wednesday, 3:00 - 7:00 May - September at Overlook Park, N Fremont/Interstate. Parks: Unthank Park is 3 blocks northeast. Dawson Park is 1/2 mi southeast. Overlook Park has an off-leash area and amazing views of the City. It's 1/2 mi west. Restaurants/Bars: On Mississippi: Gravy makes great breakfasts. There's also Moxie Rx Roadside Juicebar. Laughing Planet has an outpost here, with a kids menu. Equinox is on Shaver just off Mississippi--they have a lovely outdoor seating and serve breakfast lunch and dinner. Lovely Hula Hands is on Mississippi--they have great cocktails and dinner. Crowbar is open 3pm-2am and has a pool table and 12 taps. And food. Mississippi Station has great food and a full bar. They're connected to Mississippi Studios, where we've seen some memorable shows. Pasta Bangs is open late if you're hungry after a show. Toward the other end, Mississippi Pizza sells by the slice (live music too), and Amnesia Brewing grills a great burger. Por Que No (taqueria) is just north of Fremont on Mississippi. Coffee: Albina Press is one of our favorite coffee spots in Portland, and Fresh Pot is also on Mississippi. At the other end of Mississippi is Muddy's Coffeehouse. Other Stuff: Video Verite for DVD rentals. Black Rose Collective is a bookstore and community center (with a lending library). Take oil painting classes at Rokoff Studio. The Meadow has flowers, wines, artisan chocolates and sea salts. Blue has independently designed clothing for men and women. Pistils Nursery and the Rebuilding Center should be on any Mississippi must-see list, along with Sunlan, the lightbulb specialty store. Bikes: North Portland Bike Works |
