The roomy kitchen (14' by 10') has plenty of space for a small table and chairs under the windows. Lighting is a low voltage halogen wire system on a dimmer and there are also under-cabinet halogen task lights. The floors are paint fir. The main wall of cabinets was new as of 2005. Our taste runs a bit “modernist” and we went in this direction in the kitchen: frosted glass and aluminum upper doors and sleek lacquered white lower cabinets. The large full-extension drawers are deep enough to swallow your biggest pots and pans. The upper cabinets are 39" high. We installed a microwave cabinet. The double sink has integrated drainboard and fantastic commercial-style sprayer faucet. Applicances include a gas range, fridge (with ice-maker) and dishwasher . The countertops are beech butcher block. We hired a cabinet maker to recreate the original built-in sideboard with new polished-nickel hardware and a butcher block countertop. (He did a beautiful job... Thanks, Todd!) The orginal pantry cabinet over the range is over 2' deep and runs all the way to the ceiling (did they have Costco in 1911?). |
